• limited multitasking

verdict: yup, multitasking is now supported with 7 different services supported: background audio, VOIP, location, local notifications, task completion, fast app switching. -win-

  • notification revamp

verdict: the introduction of local notifications, but no change to the notification UI itself. -fail-

  • unified mailbox support

verdict: yup, mail now supports multiple exchange accounts, with a bunch other other new features like sync of notes & calendar for gmail, and threaded conversations included too. -win-

  • support for faster processor, higher resolutions (but probably no specifics on upcoming hardware revisions)

verdict: nothing except the exclusion of multitasking for older hardware like the iPhone 3G -fail-

  • iBooks for iPhone with web-based sync to iPad (possibly tied into MobileMe). Available on App Store.

verdict: correct except for the MobileMe bit. actually, i have no idea how they are actually syncing stuff. -win-

  • some minor UI overhauling, to closer align iPhone/iPad

verdict: lots of UI overhauling, particularly with the homescreen, but nothing in the way of aligning the two devices. no landscape orientation for the homescreen either. -fail-

  • longshot: some kind of iChat variant with front-facing camera, built on the new notifications/multitasking changes

verdict: hey, it’s a longshot for a reason, right? A man can dream! -fail-

Total score: 3/7

Sidenote: What’s with the overuse of the phrase ‘tentpoles’ in an Apple keynote? I blame Scott Forstall.
